Hopes for rain after hot spell

LOCAL growers are hoping showers forecasted in the next week will be more than just talk, with the northern Mallee experiencing the driest conditions in Victoria.

With the recent warm temperatures, it’s a tentative time for those with crops in need of a timely drink to make or break the season.

Mallan rice grower Scott Brown said his crop would need a downfall in the next week to ensure its survival.

“We need rain in the next week, or it’ll be gone,” Mr Brown said.
