MOTORCYCLE enthusiast Geoffrey Barry isn’t fazed about the prospect of losing
one of his most prominent facial features.
“No, it’s easy to grow again,” Mr
Barry said.
“It grows about 18 inches a year.
“When I was younger it went
down to my waist — I used to part it and put it over my shoulders when riding.
It was a humungous challenge for the barber. I’d sit on it when I sat
down.”
Since leaving the army in 1970 not shaving his beard has been a strict
policy — but charity is the exception to the rule.
In fact, Mr Barry is an
old hand at beard-shaving fundraisers, having shaved it for charity four times
previously, most recently at Manangatang Pub only 18 months ago.
“At the last
one there was only 100 people, but we raised $1,100,” he said.
Women Touched
By Cancer representative Jenny Stemmer welcomed the help and said money from the
upcoming event — now a double-header — would stay in Swan Hill and district.
