A LAKE BOGA couple have raised concerns that unmanaged laneways in the town are
a serious hindrance for emergency services.
Concerns were highlighted
recently when emergency service vehicles attempted to attend a nearby house
fire, but were slowed when hitting potholes, overhanging trees and other
vegetation.
“It just proved it when the truck came down and went so slow,”
resident Garry Foster said.
Mr Foster said their laneway was not the only one
exhibiting safety concerns, with many other lanes in the vicinity also having
similar structural problems.
He added they had previously notified council of
the state of the laneways, but no action had been taken.
Swan Hill Rural City
Council director of infrastructure David Leahy said council did not have a
legislative requirement to inspect or maintain laneways.
