Size and strength the key

SIZE and strength were the key differences in Tyntynder’s 86 point defeat of Cohuna in the Central Murray Football Netball League under 15s grand final on Saturday.

Tyntynder jumped out of the blocks to lead by three goals at quarter time, adding six goals to one in the second term.

Eight goals to two in the second half completed the big win.

All of the side’s better players had good games, coach Max Carroll said.

He said the Bulldogs’ onballers, Tom Sala, Jack Woodward, Bailey Fry and ruckman Patrick Crowe were again strong.

“Our onballers haven’t been beaten this year and they gave us first use of the ball again on Saturday,” Carroll said.

Down forward Kayle Kirby managed eight goals, while Lachlan Carroll and Tom Sala booted three each.

In defence, Jasper Freund, Lachy Howe and Brad Neitvelt were all on song.

Carroll said Cohuna had “had a crack”.

“Our boys were probably just a bit too big all over the ground, they shared it around really well and followed team structures pretty closely. It was a good win,” he said.

“Cohuna had a lot of quick small players, but Tyntynder’s strength won out.”

The result means the Bulldogs have gone through the season undefeated, but that’s simply icing on the cake for Carroll and co-coach Ricky Blake.

“Developing the players, improving the kids’ skills and improving their game sense is what it’s all about,” he told The Guardian on Monday.

Carroll said the youngsters had “developed really well since the start of the year”.

He said testament to their rapid development was that Lachlan Carroll, Tom Sala and Kayle Kirby have all made their senior debuts this season.

And, Carroll reckoned nine of the side were a chance to contribute to the Bulldogs’ senior team next season.

But for now they will enjoy the premiership win.

“The kids are happy [at winning the premiership], but as coaches we just love seeing them develop,” Carroll said.
