New-look book shop

SWAN HILL’S recently closed ABC store is set to make a return after the
franchise was purchased by newsagency owner Peter Beardsley.

Rather than a
new store opening up, the franchise will be set up inside Mr Beardsley’s already
existing newsagency.

“For an ABC centre to survive in a small village the
size of Swan Hill can be challenging, but when its a part of a business it would
be complementary to that business,” he said.

Mr Beardsley said he had
expressed an interest in purchasing the franchise for some time.

“We looked
at buying the centre some years ago, however we couldn’t come to a mutual
agreement with the owners,” he said.

“Now that they have retired, we have the
opportunity to pursue it.”
