Region readies for relay

NOW in its 13th year, the Swan Hill Relay for Life is set to be even bigger than
last year, with 28 teams registered for the event.

This marks an increase of
10 new teams since last year, with 350 people currently registered to take
part.

Relay for Life community engagement co-ordinator Jamie-Lea Jones said
they were hoping for that number to increase to more than 400.

She said
within the teams, the number of participants varied greatly with some teams with
only five members, but that number could increase to more than 40 in other
groups.

“The more people involved, the more you can rotate,” she
said.

“The first two laps will be dedicated to survivors and carers, but you
don’t need to be registered to take part.”

Kicking off at 6.30pm tonight, the
relay will continue for the 21 hours following the opening ceremony, with
completion scheduled for 3.30pm tomorrow.

A candlelight ceremony will be held
at 9pm.”At the ceremony, we reflect on people we have lost and people who
are still suffering with cancer,” Ms Jones said.
