MALLEE Murray Bulls’ under 21s side fell 49-runs short against Barwon Rockets in Swan Hill on Sunday.
The 50-over game was part of a state-wide knock-out tournament involving teams from Cricket Victoria’s eight representative regions.
Bulls team official Malcolm Thompson said the Bulls’ bowlers had played well to get the Rockets out for about 150.
“We were pleased to get them for that score — they’re a pretty good unit,” he said.
“We showed some good fielding and got a couple of run outs.”
Team highlights in the field for the Bulls included three wickets and a catch to Matt Smith and two wickets and a direct-hit run-out to Trent Thompson.
While Swan Hill’s Harry Clewett and Robinvale’s Aiden Calarco did well with the bat, it wasn’t enough to get the Bulls over the line.
Thompson said Clewett was the pick of the batsmen with 43 while Calarco was patient in making a start.
“Unfortunately the rest of the batsmen weren’t quite up to it,” he told The Guardian yesterday.
