Hope for Staralan

LOCAL racing duo Austy and Harry Coffey will be among those vying for the $20,000 Lickety Split 975m, the feature of Swan Hill’s Christmas races on Sunday.

Coming off a 31-week spell, this month the seven-year-old has produced a fifth and eighth place at Moonee Valley, but don’t underrate him, according to jockey Harry Coffey. Coffey said the bay gelding should shine brightly and excel on his home turf.

“Hence the name ‘star’,” Coffey said.

“He raced in Melbourne last start, we’re dragging him back to Swan Hill after racing in the big league.”

Harry is on his own streak of good form, coming from a winner in Donald on Sunday and a first place in Melbourne last Friday night.

The full form of the seven-race meet was yet to be finalised at time of writing yesterday, but a host of local trainers, including Jane Matheson, Ian Fletcher, Con Kelly, William Barker, Collin Fletcher all had nominations entered for possible selection.

Gates open at 11am Sunday for the $110,000 seven-race meet.
