IT’S time the Australian consumer took a stand against the use of imported products in house brand goods in supermarkets, according to the Victorian Farmers Federation.
Their current campaign, #TellUsWhy, utilises social media to encourage consumers to make grocery choices that support the use of Australian produce in the homebrand products of Coles, Woolworths and Aldi.
Imported products are often used, due to better profit margins, with even the ‘Australian made’ symbol no longer a guarantee that ingredients within products are sourced locally.
“We’re asking consumers, next time you’re in Coles, Woolworths or Aldi, check the fine print on the food you’re about to buy,” VFF public affairs advisor Tom Whitty said.
