Tigers ready to roar into the new year

IMPROVEMENT from its younger players will be a key catalyst to Woorinen’s fortunes in 2014, senior coach Nick Trenfield believes.

Trenfield has been reappointed for the upcoming Central Murray Football Netball League season and said he believed the club was on the right track.

With preseason training to start on Monday, Trenfield said most of the 2013 playing group had been retained and was upbeat about Woorinen’s prospects.

“[The next step will come] probably just from our younger guys improving that extra 25 per cent,” Trenfield said.

“A lot [of the younger players] will be like new recruits.

“The other main thing is we’ve done pretty well so far to keep the playing group together from last year.”

Trenfield said it was too early to discuss recruits but said the Tigers “have got a lot in the pipelines”.

He said those that had re-committed to the club after last year’s campaign were also confident in the Tigers’ 2014 season.

“They’re upbeat… everyone internally knows how close we are,” he said.

Tigers president Grant Jones said the club was happy to reappoint Trenfield.

“Nick has been with the club for the past couple of years and has bought a wealth of knowledge with him and assisted in establishing a winning culture,” he said.

“Nick has a strong focus on the development of our junior players and we feel that this will provide us with a strong club for the years to come.”

A favourite son at Woorinen, Kyle Steicke has been appointed as assistant coach to Trenfield.

The Tigers have also reappointed reserves premiership coach Kieran McLaughlin to the same position he held last year.

Preseason will commence for all players, colts through to seniors on Monday at 6pm at Woorinen.

Jones said players looking for a game in any grades were welcome.
