Although it may not be immediately obvious what onions and candy canes have in
common, attendees at Friday night’s Forest of Christmas Trees charity auction
certainly found out.
More than 80 community decorated christmas trees were
auctioned at the fundraiser put together by Swan Hill Neighbourhood House
(SHNH).
Noel Watson auctioned the trees, with proceeds to go to three
beneficiaries — Murray Human Services, Nyah Men’s Shed and Swan Hill Girl
Guides.
About four trees already had bids put forward for them before the night.
Tree artists let their creative side go wild, with a wide array of materials
used as decorations including sweets, fabrics and even onions.
“That is what we
want to encourage — something from outside the square,” SHNH co-ordinator Lea
Johnson said.
This year, a tactile decoration area also formed part of the
exhibition allowing children a chance to get hands on.
