The Blue Gate Merinos and Norwood Farm Machinery Swan Hill Benchmark 59 Handicap was won in convincing style by a horse appropriately named Group Hug — there are over 15 owners in this horse with most of the syndicate hailing from Birchip.
Many of the owners were present on the day to see their horse win and celebrate the success.
Once again the Fashions on the Field didn’t fail to impress with over 65 children, ladies and men strutting their stuff for the judges and on-lookers.
The winners of the main event of the day, The Jewellery on the Move Race Day Lady and Gentleman (25 years and over) were Julie Scougall from Macedon, and Peter Haslock from Wyuna.
Nanna Walkington from Cohuna won the final fashions competition of the Arbonne Hat or Fascinator of the Day.
Race club committee member Tarsh Rodda said perfect weather and competitive racing made for a successful day for the district’s annual meet.
“With such thrilling race finishes, happy families smiling from a day out and many of the young crowd partying late into the evening back in town, the race club committee were delighted with the meeting,” she said.
