Good play in ideal conditions

IDEAL conditions encouraged excellent hitting among competitors and teammates in junior tennis at Swan Hill this week.

All players were exceedingly fair and sportsmanlike, as expected.

The youngest group, the Aussie Mozzies, participated in some great tennis, increasing their skills.

The brother/sister duo of Jude and Lily Seymour had superb wins in their singles.

However some singles sets proved to be too close for the contenders, with a number of draws.

These included John Howison against Ava Livingston as well as between Bronwyn Hewitt and Olivia Stacey-Algie whose high standard of play was matched by their rivals.

Champions for the day were Jude Seymour, Kobe McCaig, John Howison, Lily Seymour, Brylie Snowden, Bronwyn Hewitt and Luca Devlin

Tomic boys took advantage of the great weather to fight with all their strength against their opponents.

In particular, Noah McCaig and Keelan Snowden had a riveting battle all morning.

They matched each other’s great serving and strokes which saw a nail-biting day.

Best players for the day were Tynan Connelan and Liam White.

Some matches in Wozniacki were a little too close for comfort — witnessed by the number of tiebreakers.

Tahlia Barry and Sophie Reed had their work cut out for them when put against Megan Hogan and Abby Morrison.

Long rallies and fantastic play by both saw the need for a tie-breaker in which Hogan and Morrison prospered.

Another tiebreaker was played in the singles set between Claudia Free and Hannah Wright, with the latter narrowly getting up.

Top players were Meg Hogan and Hannah Wright.

Nadal’s singles matches were definitely worth watching, with some outstanding games played.

Flynn Angus and Joel Saville were in the midst of some long and skilful rallies in their one-on-one set.

A tiebreaker saw Angus the winner.

Another close contest was played between Lachie Burns and Brodie Tonkin.

With Tonkin’s good serving and Burns’ great strokes it was sure to be a tight one.

This time the result tilted in Tonkin’s favour, 6-4.

The biggest scores belonged to Flynn Angus, Brodie Tonkin, Dallas Glowery and Lleyton McClean.
