Arenacross debut

BROTHERS Jack and Sam Fielder will be taking to the arenacross track at Chisholm Reserve for the Swan Hill season debut tomorrow night.

Seven-year-old Jack has been riding for a couple of years now, but for his five-year-old brother this weekend’s event will be his first taste of formal competition.

The progress of both boys will be closely monitored by dad Michael, who himself competes in the over 35s class.

Michael said he took up riding recently after more than a decade away from the track.

“I got back in to it with Jack two years ago,” he said.

And with Sam now also competing, the Fielders look set to be a regular fixture at motorcycle club events.

“I just want to be out there having a bit of fun and keeping the kids involved,” Michael said.

Club president Dean Rickard said tomorrow night’s event will be the first of seven club rounds planned for the arenacross season.

“The track’s looking good… it’s all ready to go. We’ve been in and tidied up the joint,” he said.

Arenacross runs through until October, with motocross — staged over a longer, more free-flowing track — starting in April.

The year looks set to be another big one for the club, with a round of the junior Victorian titles and a regional round among the events set to bring plenty of high-octane action to Swan Hill.
