LINDA and John Brownstein had no experience in sailing when they joined the Lake Boga Yacht Club just over a year ago, but their enthusiasm and passion for the sport has quickly flourished.
“We had no experience at all. We had moved to Swan Hill [from Benalla] and the lake was nearby,” Linda said.
“We thought it was a fantastic resource so we decided to come down and give it a go.”
Both Linda and John were at Boga for the club’s Discover Sailing day on Sunday and, while there were no first-timers on this occasion, for Linda it was an opportunity to further enhance her proficiency with some solo time on the water.
“I’ve struggled a bit more than John… we’re still novices,” Linda said.
For John the biggest eye-opener has been the pace out on the water.
“It’s a very exciting sport — that was unexpected. You learn a lot of skills and when the water is up on Lake Boga it’s quite exhilarating,” he said.
Both paid testament to the club’s welcoming vibes and hope to see numbers continue to grow.
“I want to see more women out sailing, in particular,” Linda said.
