Last chance for country times

WITH Vic Country qualifying times on offer, at least 100 swimmers flocked to Swan Hill for the January open-age swimming meet on Saturday.

The dangled-carrot of qualifying times hadn’t previously applied to the Nyah Two Bays Swan Hill Swimming Club’s January event until the cut-off date was pushed back from December until mid-January this season.

And it made the event busier but it nevertheless went off without a hitch, NTBSH committee member Jamie King said.

“They came from all over the place — Bendigo, Bayside, Red Cliffs, Sunraysia and Wyndham — it was good,” he said.

“It was bigger than we anticipated purely for that reason.”

The day was also the first of what is planned to be an annual back-to for past club representatives.

King said the focus for NTBSH swimmers was now the Vic Country titles to be held in Wodonga on Australia Day.

“We’ve got 35 [NTBSH swimmers] going; 24 of them have qualified for individual events,” he said.
