Shires stay solo

A RECOMMENDATION for the amalgamation of Balranald and Wentworth local government areas has been met with opposition from both councils.

The recently released final report of the Independent Local Government Review Panel recommended a joint administration or merger of the Balranald and Wentworth Shire Council areas.

However, it remains unclear what either of these options would entail.

Both Balranald and Wentworth shires have voiced their preference to remain autonomous.

Balranald Shire Council acting general manager Robert Rayner said although council was yet to discuss the outcomes of the report, it had been clear in communicating its wishes to the Panel.
