MALLEE Murray Bulls’ under 14s and16s boys sides were on a steep learning curve at the 2014 Victorian Pathway Championships in Melbourne this week, regional manager Andrew Farlie said.
The two boys’ age groups events were the last of the pathway programs for the year, with tournaments organised for boys and girls from under 14s up.
Farlie said the highlight came on Monday in the Bulls’ under 16s match.
“They had a very good win, they were very impressive with their fielding,” he said.
Farlie said while the Bulls were “probably a little bit short” in setting a target of 163, their performance to defend the total was impressive.
“They fielded out of their skins to get the win over [metropolitan team] the Scorpions,” he said.
On the same day the under 14s also took on the Scorpions, with the metropolitan team claiming a big win.
“The under 14s against the Scorpions probably didn’t bowl as well as they would have liked and were chasing about 200,” Farlie said.
“Then we weren’t able to build any partnerships with the bat and that was a bit of a learning experience for them on the first day.”
