Demons build under Skinner

JARROD Skinner is under no illusions where Nyah Nyah West United is at, but is keen to continue progress made in recent seasons at Demonland.

When he took on the role of Demons’ coach back in October, Skinner sought to sign a mix of players, including former locals.

They include Daniel Sydes, who has crossed back from Golden Rivers club Nullawil, and Adrian Knee returns after a stint overseas. New to the club is Dane Coburn, a former local who has returned to the region from Queensland.

“We’ve added a few guys too, guys that have moved to town and are around the mark to play seniors, so that strengthens depth,” Skinner said.

“We’ve got plenty of enthusiasm from the younger guys who’ve put in a big pre-season as well.”

Skinner said the work put in by the club’s younger players should see them “improve out of sight”.

And he said some of the returned and recruited players had been key to the young group’s enthusiasm.

“Definitely there are guys that have come in that have been great for the kids. Adrian Knee is coaching the colts so he’s got them on board,” Skinner said.

The colts had coached with the senior group until about a month ago, he added.

“Plenty of young players are putting their hands up for a senior spot and we’ll have a stronger twos side this year too,” Skinner said.

He said he planned to use more positional and interchange rotations.
