JUST three years after taking up polocrosse, Olivia Godfrey will join Victoria’s under 16 girls’ team at the national carnival in Darwin later this year.
The 13-year-old Swan Hill College student took up the sport at the suggestion of a friend at a pony club meeting at Balranald and hasn’t looked back since.
“It’s just fun and I like the horse aspect of it as well,” Godfrey told The Guardian, while practicing at her Nyah West home on Wednesday.
Godfrey said she practiced at home every day, while the opportunity to practice in a team context came at regular tournaments around the state.
She said she wasn’t sure what to expect when it came to trying out for the state team.
“I was really surprised [to be chosen] — I didn’t know that I would be,” she said.
Her expectations at the national carnival were modest.
“I’m not sure how I’ll go, I don’t know how tough they are,” she said.
The national polocrosse carnival will be held in Darwin from July 7 to 13.
