Teams’ premiership grins

THE Swan Hill Basketball Association season concluded with grand finals last week.

Under 12s girls

Tigers 37 (Arlee Bennett 15) def Rebels 28 (Lily Stacey 22)

THE Tigers knocked off the ladder-topping Rebels in a hard-fought match.

The game progressed goal for goal until the Tigers finally broke away and held on for victory.

Lily Stacey tried hard all night scoring 22 of 28 points for the Rebels and was ably assisted by Mia Hawkins.

Arlee Bennett was a stand out for the Tigers, scoring 15 points, with great defensive help from Ruby Kelly-Guthrie.

Under 12s boys

Rebels 47 (Tanner Lewis 30) def Saints 42 (Nyawi Moore 34)

IN WHAT could be described almost like a game of ping pong, the under 12s boys game went from one end to the other all match.

Spectators had every right to have sore necks watching Tanner Lewis and Nyawi Moore battle it out in the scoring.

Pocket rocket Emanuel Gabriel used his speed to help the Rebels, assisting Lewis who scored 30 points.

The underdog Saints didn’t give up, with Moore amassing a huge 34 points in the match, backed up by Mackenzie Kelly.

Under 14s girls

Tigers 47 (Sophie Brumby 20) def Speewa 26 (Remi Bennett 21)

THE Tigers progressed from top of the ladder to premiership winners with a strong performance against Speewa in the under 14s girls clash.

Tigers player Sophie Brumby dominated the scoring with 20 points and was well supported by Meg Hogan, who scored 16.

Speewa stayed in the game being down by only three points at halftime but struggled in the second half.

The determined Remi Bennett scored 21 points for Speewa while Grace Farrell’s rebounding and defence was commendable.

Under 14s boys

Tigers 38 (Isaiah Bull 10) def

Saints 31 (Oscar Lewis 14)

THE Tigers assumed victory over the Saints in this tight match with the difference only being decided in the last few minutes.

The two Oscars kept the Saints in the match, with Oscar Lewis’ 14 points and excellent ball handling supported by Oscar Gale’s great rebounding.

Dom “Bomber” Gallo had a great night for the Tigers, assisting Isaiah Bull whose 10 points helped get them over the line in this tight battle.

Under 19s girls

Fireflies 35 (Elvie Kelly-Britten 21) def Rebels 34 (Sarah Hepburn 10)

THE night’s nail-biter was the under 19s girls’ match with Fireflies edging out Rebels by one point.

A great team effort from the Rebels saw many contributions, with Sarah Hepburn scoring 10 points and great defensive work from Tenay Fellows.

But it was the Fireflies who scraped through, Emma Haley was good at both ends of the court and Elvie Kelly-Britten had a stand out performance shooting 21 points.

Under 19s boys

Speewa 55 (Tom Spicer 19) def Tigers 44 (Lochie Gardiner 16)

SPEEWA were crowned premiers in the under 19s boys, defeating Tigers in physical and athletic match.

The Tigers were only two points down at half time but struggled to keep up with an in-form Speewa, which broke away despite some difficulties.

Tom Spicer had a ripper, scoring 19 points and was well supported by Jack Hickmott.

The Makepeace brothers tried hard all match for the Tigers, while Lochie Gardiner had a good contribution with 16 points.
