Davis claims ninth title

MARY-ANNE Davis claimed her ninth Murray Downs Golf Club ladies title and seventh in a row this season, with the main gong presented at the club’s annual presentation night last week.

Davis and Lynne Bishop were tied on 166 after two rounds but Bishop succumbed to nerves for the first few holes and the champion finished the day six shots clear of her opponent with an 85.

B grade champion and winner of the Hazel Holt Memorial trophy, Maralyn Morrison started the day one shot behind Jude Simmonds but was able to prevail with a score of 103, making a three-round total of 299 that saw her five shots clear of Simmonds.

C grade champion was Eileen Morath who started the day with an unassailable lead and finished it with a three-round total of 328. Morath received the Monica Bailey Trophy.

Chris Warburton on 230 won the handicap section in A grade with 230 but only after she survived a count-back from Lynne Bishop.

Warburton was awarded the Jess Petzke Memorial trophy for the best nett score over the event.

In B grade, Morrison also took out the handicap section with 236 with Mary Gadsden losing on a count-back and Lyn Billing only one shot further back.

Lea Johnson, who is only in her second year of competitive golf, took out the best nett for C and D grade with 232 and also won D grade perpetual trophy.
