Davis returns for the Blues

TROY Davis will play his first game for Kerang since the 2009 grand final on Saturday.

After that ill-fated day against Balranald, when the Blues went down by 56 points in just their second loss of the season, Davis went on to play two seasons with Geelong Falcons in the TAC Cup before being drafted to Melbourne in the 2010 national draft.

Davis was delisted by the Demons after playing two games last year but was retained by VFL side Casey Scorpions.

This year will see him play primarily for the Scorpions, slotting in to Kerang’s side when scheduling allows.

Kerang coach Troy Coates said he envisaged Davis playing a role in Kerang’s forward line and possibly in the ruck as well.

He said Davis’ return was exciting for the club.

“Obviously he’s really good mates with the boys and they’ve grown up playing footy together so they get a chance to play with him again,” Coates said.

“And he’s come straight off an AFL list so he’ll be really fit and strong at the moment. It will be interesting to see the impact he has on Saturday.”

Coates said with Tooleybuc Manangatang in strong form, the Blues were hoping for the game at Riverside Park to generate plenty of interest.

“We’d love to see a big crowd at our game on Saturday,” he said.
