LAKE Boga has the chance to turn the corner when it hosts Koondrook Barham tomorrow.
Boga’s opening three rounds of the Central Murray Football Netball League season have all resulted in close losses.
The Magpies went down by five goals to Balranald and Tyntynder, with a bye and a 13-goal loss to Kerang sandwiched in between.
Boga netball president Vicki Taylor said the Pies had been travelling well in general.
“Overall we’ve been doing quite well but in A grade we’ve had lots of close games but haven’t been able to get one on the board,” she said.
With a mix of returning older players and promoted juniors, Taylor said the Pies were “a fairly new team”.
“They’re still going through that learning process of putting it all together on the day,” she said.
“They haven’t really played with a fully settled side yet.”
The Magpies are hoping young gun Holly Higginbottom will return from a knee injury this week.
Taylor said Higginbottom, who normally plays wing attack, would be a welcome inclusion.
Higginbottom and Bethany Ibbs are two of the young stars making an impression with Boga.
Taylor said improved focus would see the Pies turn the corner.
“It’s a matter of putting four full quarters together. It was only in the second quarter last week that they lost concentration and let it slip,” she said.
Koondrook Barham is also yet to win a game.
Like Boga, the Raiders have been close the last couple of weeks against Balranald and Kerang but Koondrook Barham endured a tough opening couple of weeks against Swan Hill and Woorinen.
Tomorrow’s winner will not only open their account for the season but also have the chance to jump above Mallee Eagles, at least for the week, who have the bye.
