LOCAL nursing homes are on the lookout for knitted blankets.
About one and a half years ago, local Sue Jarrett found herself in hospital for a few weeks after breaking her ankle.
With “lovely” nurses around her, she was taught how to crochet — a skill she previously didn’t have.
“There was this one lady who taught me to crochet,” she said. “I was there for a couple of weeks so I started to make blankets.”
With her crocheting skills improving quickly, Sue made half a dozen blankets. She gave some to the hospital and some to Alcheringa.
“Someone then told me that the Jacaranda Lodge were also in need,” she said. “They usually need to replace them each year as, when they’re washed, they shrink.
“They are really in need of them, so anyone that help out would be great. I think they would really appreciate it.”
Sue said she enjoyed crocheting and had made a few football themed blankets.
“There is no harm in doing something like that for a good cause,” she said. “I made some Essendon and some Collingwood.”
Anyone who has any blankets is encouraged to get in contact with the nursing homes.
