WITH less than one week until Swan Hill’s event of the year, local beauty and fashion professionals have given some secrets to scrubbing up well this racing carnival.

La Beaute owner Tash Keegan said not to stress if you hadn’t yet booked a beauty appointment, as you could still do many last-minute beauty treatments yourself.

With fake tanning always being a popular option, Tash advises to exfoliate and scrub each night.

“You should be doing this anyway, but especially if you plan to fake tan,” she says.

After application, Tash says to keep moisturising the skin and stay away from soaps which will dry your skin out.

“The key is to keep your skin moisturised to keep your tan,” she says.

Tash said a lady should also maintain manicured nails. This year, shellac is a huge hit.

“Shellac is really good in the way it doesn’t chip. For both nails and toes,” she says.

With a rainbow of different colours being in fashion, Tash said a bit of glitter polish on the ring finger had proved to be popular this year.

Tash’s last tip is to wear bright lipstick and to ensure you reapply throughout the day.

On the fashion side of things, Ladz owner Elly Pearce says navy suits were in for men.

“Suits with contrasting colours, trousers, vests and bow ties are the way to go,” she says.

For the ladies, Elly advises that hems are coming down.

“Lace always looks stunning and leather has been popular, as has satin and silk,” she says.

“Ostrich-feather wraps and furs are very glamorous and will keep you warm.”

In terms of colours, Elly says “black and white is elegant and always a winner”.
