Eagles consolidate top-five spot

MALLEE Eagles did as expected against Tyntynder, consolidating their spot in the top five with a big win over the Bulldogs on Saturday.

Alan Garden Memorial Reserve held no fear for the Eagles, who, after an inaccurate first quarter by both teams, opened the game up with nine second-quarter goals.

The second-term output basically put the game to bed, with the visitors taking a 67-point advantage into the main break.

A further nine goals in the second half underscored the Eagles’ dominance in the 23.15 (153) to 8.9 (57) win.

While Kayle Kirby (three) and Brad Carroll (two) were the only Bulldogs able to contribute multiple majors on the day, the Eagles were well served in front of goals with six players registering six pointers more than once.

Jake Mills led the way with six, while Marty Kelly slammed home four for the day.

Darcy Bibby and Josh Cheek again highlighted the young talent coming through for the Dogs, whileC Carroll’s performance also had him among the best for Tyntynder.

Kelly, Beau Bennett and Steve Thomson were the better players for the Eagles.

The Eagles host Koondrook Barham next up, with a chance to further consolidate their claim on a finals berth.

Tyntynder travels to Cohuna in what looms as another long day for the young Dogs.
