TWO traditional heavyweights of the Central Murray Football Netball League will meet in a match that is not only the most anticipated of Round 9 but the most intriguing of 2014.
Swan Hill hosts Kerang with both sides going into the match undefeated but with a long list of injuries to the Blues the game is starting to take on a different complexion.
After a break-even first half against Nyah Nyah West United last week, the Blues got away and were able to go on to win by 10-plus goals against a spirited Demons side.
The Swans travelled to Greenham Park where they took apart an improving Balranald line-up in tricky conditions.
With both teams undefeated and on top of the ladder this game could see the winner gaining a mental advantage ahead of a likely re-match in September.
At home, and with a more complete list to choose from, however, the Swans will start favourites.
While he’s had a hand here and there, Mark Walter has done most of the ruck work so far this season for the Blues. His task against big Swan Callan Beasy will be a tough one.
While Walter will be competitive it is likely Beasy will get first to the ball, meaning the Blues’ task will be to prevent classy Swans mids like Xavier Moloney from capitalising.
To this end, the loss of Brent Taylor, and possibly Karl Lohde if he misses again, hurts the Blues, although the form of Luke Cotchett and Lance Picioane has been strong.
Troy Coates, Brad Pay and Ryan Gillingham are also proving reliable stars this season for the Blues.
Missing for the Swans will be midfielder Grant Tasca who continues to be hampered by a broken finger and Tom Dullard. Moloney, Toby Thoolen, Leighton Dullard and Jonno Hirst will all play important roles in the middle for the Swans.
