Karting success

THE Swan Hill Kart Club pulled off another successful event at Chisholm Reserve at the weekend.

Just a week after the versatile motorsport facility hosted a round of the motocross national series, the club held its annual titles at the venue on Sunday.

About 90 entries were received for the Sun Centre Titles, with competitors converging on Swan Hill from across Victoria, and from South Australia and New South Wales.

The 11 categories featured local success, with Anthony Whitwam winning the sportsman restricted over 40s category.

Hayden Stewart also picked up a third in the sportsman restricted event. Other highlights for local fans included having Australia’s number one junior national heavy driver Dylan Hollis compete at the titles.

Swan Hill Kart Club committee member Kent Hansen said the event had been characterised by “good, clean racing”.

“It was very good racing. There were no injuries and no crashes, so it was clean racing,” he said.

“We had very good numbers and the weather was good once the fog cleared.”

Hansen said the event also provided valuable driving experience for young locals.

“It’s a good experience for our kids, they get a good challenge against a high standard of racing,” he said.

He said the kart club was grateful to sponsors and volunteers for helping the event run smoothly.
