Mixing with the best

HARLIAI Curthoys-Davies cemented her ranking among the best Australian junior swimmers with three top-10 placings at the Schools Sport Australia national swimming championships held in Melbourne last week.

The 11-year-old rising star of Victorian swimming rounded off her week-long campaign on Saturday as a member of the fourth placed Victorian freestyle relay team.

The relay event followed a week of results that saw her place sixth, seventh, eighth and 12th in her individual events.

Curthoys-Davies said morale had been strong for Team Vic.

“I haven’t had so much fun swimming for a long time, and I really enjoyed catching up with my teammates from last year,” she said.

Curthoys-Davies completes most of her often-gruelling training sessions alone at the Swan Hill Leisure Centre.

The Swan Hill region’s most outstanding young swimmer produced personal best performances in each one of her races during the six-day carnival.

There is little rest for Curthoys-Davies as she prepares for next weekend’s Victorian short-course championships where she is a medal fancy in each of her pet freestyle and backstroke events.
