Tigers go again at Swans

WOORINEN’S two-goal qualifying final win last week ensured it will have another crack at Swan Hill.

The Tigers gave a half-time lead last week against Tooleybuc Manangatang, coming from behind in the third quarter to lead by one goal at the last change.

A stunning last quarter saw Naomi Lewis’ side get up by two goals. They now face a Swans outfit that stole top spot with a one-goal win in Round 18.

The last round match was a bit of a shoot-out, with Tayla Stanley scoring 31 goals for the Tigers and Emily Patterson netting 29 for the Swans.

The re-match clearly pits the competition’s two best sides against each other.

While Woorinen, on top of the ladder for most of the year, seemed desperately unlucky to lose the number one status in the last round, the truth is the Swans were never far behind.

The Round 18 result turned the tables but both sides remained four games clear of the nearest side.

While neither first semi-finalist can be discounted, this match appears to be a likely grand final preview.

The loser though will have to sweat it out in a nerve-wracking preliminary final against the Saints or Tyntynder.

For the other netball semi-finals, see Friday’s paper (August 5, 2014).
