THE region’s young people have become increasingly concerned about a proposal to change the unemployment benefit.
Changes outlined by the Federal Government in its June budget would see those aged 30 years and under unable to claim the unemployment allowance until they are out of work for six months.
In the Swan Hill region, typical barriers for young job seekers include a lack of transportation.
Under the changes, the cost of public transport, relocation and petrol will become a heavier burden, unemployment agents say.
In regional areas, travelling long distances and lack of transportation are two of the major barriers for young people looking for work.
