APPLICANTS for a childcare centre on Yana Street in Swan Hill will learn their fate in coming weeks after a Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal hearing on Thursday.
For the second time in as many years, objectors have challenged Swan Hill Rural City Council’s decision to approve the 40-place centre opposite the Swan Hill Specialist School.
Their first challenge last year was successful, however, that did not deter applicants Marg and Scott Hartshorn from putting in a new-look submission earlier this year.
At the Swan Hill Courthouse yesterday, the VCAT hearing saw neighbours on either side of the development follow through on objections.
Concerns with stormwater drainage, traffic safety and the location of the development were key to their argument.
Senior member Anthony Liston, who oversaw the matter, conducted a site visit following the hearing.
He will hand down a decision in the coming weeks.
