Critten stars in state singles show

LAKE Boga and Racecourse won the Murray Valley region’s state singles finals played at Murray Downs on Sunday.

Lisa Critten, of Lake Boga, was the star of the show, when she won her first title with a 25-6 victory over Moulamein’s Doreen Weaver. 

In the morning Critten had a battle in her semi-final against Teresa Furnell of Murray Downs, winning it 25-20. Weaver bowled very well in her semi-final against Heather Mitchell of Balranald winning 25-18. 

In the final Critten started very well and never let Weaver get into the game. She ran out an easy winner.

Racecourse’s Glen Evans was far too steady for Wayne Clarke of Moulamein in the first semi-final, with Evans winning 25-17. 

Racecourse’s Lindsay Ryan played Manangatang’s Ivan Hicks in the second semi-final. This was a great game with the lead changing many times. 

After 26 ends Ryan held the lead 21-15, but by the 33rd end the scores were 24-24. The experience of Ryan won him the last end, to make it an all-Racecourse final. 

In the final, Ryan started well, leading 13-6 after 12 ends. Evans started to find touch and won the next seven ends to take the lead 17-13. 

Ryan won the 20th end, and never looked back from that point, going on to win his fourth Murray Valley singles crown 25-18.
