IN A shocking twist of events, one Swan Hill Rural City councillor has been left “disappointed” in his colleagues while another has reaped the glory of the mayoral robes.
It was a surprise victory for new Mayor Michael Adamson on Tuesday evening, when Swan Hill councillors moved to elect their new leader.
After former Mayor Les McPhee recently indicated he did not plan to run for a third consecutive term in the top role, Murray Mallee Ward representative Gary Norton expressed an interest in the position.
But when Swan Hill Rural City Council CEO Dean Miller called for nominations on Tuesday night, Cr Norton remained curiously silent.
Cr Jim Crowe threw Cr Adamson’s name into the ring — a nomination he accepted — but with no further candidates, Cr Adamson was elected unopposed.
