THE Murray River is expected to rise to more than double its current height from next week.
Environmental water released from Lake Eildon will see the Murray’s level at Echuca rise quickly on November 24 and reach two metres at Swan Hill, before returning to normal levels a few weeks later.
Downstream of the Torrumbarry Weir the river is forecast to peak at about four metres, the Murray Darling Basin Authority (MDBA) has said.
This is the second of two environmental pulses from the Goulburn River, the first of which passed through the system from mid-October to early November.
It’s a welcome boost for local tourism, with river lovers expected to flock to town as the level peaks.
