Darcy Charnock is the toast of Swan Hill after claiming state crown

DARCY Charnock is the pride of the Swan Hill boxing fraternity after winning Victoria’s novice middleweight crown on Sunday.

The title has been 12 months in the making, with Charnock committing to a gruelling regime to get through four bouts — including two semi-finals — to face Oakleigh’s Dave Convery in the title fight in Melbourne at the weekend.

Charnock first pulled on the gloves at Swan Hill as a 16-year-old, dedicating himself to “proper fighting” about 18 months ago.

Illness curtailed his progress last year, with the 19-year-old buckling down for a proper shot at the title some 12 months ago.

“It’s a great feeling to know all that hard work and months of training finally paid off,” he said.
