VCE results a mixed bag for Swan Hill

IN A record year for Victorian graduate numbers, the proportion of Swan Hill students completing their Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) was higher than the state average.

Statistics released by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) revealed the VCE completion rate of students in the Swan Hill local government area (LGA) was 99.4 per cent, while the state average was 97.7 per cent.

Buloke LGA received a perfect score with all VCE students completing the certificate, while Gannawarra Shire LGA ended with a 95.1 per cent completion rate.

The local graduates were part of a record-breaking 49,204 students across Victoria to finish their VCE.

It wasn’t all good news, however, with only 2.5 per cent of VCE graduates in the Swan Hill area achieving a study score of 40 or more for at least one of their subjects, well below the state average of 19.3 per cent.

Buloke and Gannawarra Shire students performed marginally better, with their proportion of students scoring over 40 in one subject being 4.8 per cent and 4.2 per cent respectively.

The average ATAR score across Victoria was in the mid 60s, with girls generally performing slightly better than boys.
