FESTIVAL-GOERS have hailed the 69th Australian Jazz Convention in Swan Hill a success.
The annual five-day get-together of the jazz fraternity brought hundreds of interstate and overseas jazz fans and musicians to Swan Hill, many complimenting the city on the way it hosted the event.
With more than 500 delegates and musicians registering for the convention — surpassing the event organisers’ expectations — many agreed the attendance was up on previous conventions.
For Perth musician Don Bancroft, who has managed to catch most of the conventions since attending his first in 1959, the current one in Swan Hill rated highly in his experiences.
“It’s very, very good, it’s got a lovely atmosphere,” he said.
“Because this town is central to NSW, Victoria, Adelaide, a lot of musos have come that normally wouldn’t.”
Event organiser Reg Packer said the convention also received overwhelming support from locals, exemplified by the sale of more than 100 day and week-long passes to the closed events.
