One man’s crappy gift is another’s treasure

IT IS out with the old and in with the new for locals who have donated twice the usual amount of clothes to op shops over the past month.

Swan Hill Red Cross manager Valerie Parsons says with Christmas now over, everyone wants to make room for their new goods.

However, donations have mainly been clothing items.

“I think with winter now over, everyone is getting rid of their warm stuff to make room for their new clothes,” she said.

“We do have a ‘re-gift’ it bin for people to put unwanted items in, such as presents.”

According to the Red Cross, Australian’s spend more than $1 billion on unwanted presents.

Ms Parsons encouraged everyone to donate their unwanted gifts, rather than throwing them away.

“It can be anything — but electric and furniture we don’t take,” she said.
