Ben joins push for local hospice

A SWAN Hill mechanic will lend his skills to a charitable cause in an effort to “pitch in” and raise funds for a proposed hospice in Swan Hill.

The Swan Hill Hospice Fund has now reached $11,500 – including $110 raised on a charity website – in donations, well on the way to the $100,000 target.

Fundraising efforts have come from all sorts of initiatives, including community events and personal projects.

Ben Turner is among those to lend their skills to the cause.

A qualified mechanic, he plans to fix up machines – at his own expense – to then sell them on and donate an amount to the charity.

The amount donated will depend on whether the project is for someone else or a machine Mr Turner has purchased.

In the case of donated machines, 100 percent of the profits will go to the hospice fund.

Mr Turner decided to get involved after his friend’s father passed away, spending the last few weeks of his life in the hospice in Bendigo.

“A hospice in Swan Hill would make it a bit more easier for the people going through it,” he said.

To donate to the cause visit www.givenow.com.au/shdh or head to the Swan Hill District Health reception desk.

If you have a machine to contribute to Mr Turner’s project he can be found on Facebook or by phoning 0418 350 365.
