PRICES were strong at Swan Hill’s first cattle sale of 2015.
Farmers in Queensland and northern New South Wales have received good rain in the last couple of months, prompting them to increase stock numbers.
Combine this with a strong export market for beef and a low Aussie dollar and it makes for good cattle prices for local farmers.
Wycheproof farmer Craig Cossar said the prices at yesterday’s sale reflected where the market should be.
Mr Cossar said that there was lots of hype leading up to this week’s sale but that sometimes the prices were not all that good when you got there.
He said that cows were selling better than other types at the saleyards at 180-190c/kg or above.
“Good cattle bring good prices” Mr Cossar said.
