EDNA O’Halloran was not only celebrating Australia Day on Monday, but a special milestone many of us don’t get to see — her 100th birthday.
Edna woke up on Monday morning to a pleasant, and completely unexpected surprise: a full page advertisement in The Guardian wishing her a happy birthday.
“I got a shock when I saw it,” she said.
“It was nice of my family to organize that.”
Attending the breakfast at Riverside Park, the crowd of more than 1200 people got together and sang her happy birthday.
Feeling overwhelmed, she said she was “very lucky” to be 100.
