SWAN Hill is about to be inundated with at least 1500 people next week, as Victoria Country Tennis Association (VCTA) Country Week rolls into town.
The event, which Swan Hill hosts every two to three years, will run between Monday and Friday, and is a huge boon for the region’s economy.
According to tournament organiser Pat Gilchrist, about 1500 people are expected to visit the town throughout the week, with 194 teams of up to eight players registered for the tournament.
This is a conservative estimate, Mrs Gilchrist felt, given some participants might bring family and friends as well.
“This is a unique tournament because it’s one of the biggest grass court tournaments worldwide, with nearly 100 grass courts that we’ll be playing on,” Mrs Gilchrist said.
