Weather holds up for first two days

THE WEATHER held off for the first two days of Country Week tennis, with the heat policy not needed to be enacted, as was first feared.

However, tournament organisers do not feel we should be so lucky today, with the forecast temperature at just under 40 degrees.

With temperatures not exceeding 40 degrees on the first couple of days — as was first forecast — and sticking around the mid to late 30s, matches were allowed to be competed in their full eight-game sets.

The tennis action went on until 6pm on both days, with teams playing their two matches per day over three full-length time slots.

Tournament organiser Pat Gilchrist said the heat policy would be enacted today, however, as the heat was expected to reach 39 degrees.

Matches would be reverted back to the six-game sets initially expected to be played at the start of the tournament, while the day’s action will have to wrap up at 3pm instead of 6pm.
