WATER authorities say recent pumping events at Lake Boga have not contributed to the issuance of a blue-green algae alert.
Goulburn-Murray Water sent out a warning on Tuesday afternoon after monitoring detected high levels of blue-green algae present in the water.
The last blue-green algae alert at the lake was issued in February 2013, lasting for 21 days before being removed.
Although Lake Boga will not be closed to the public, when high levels are detected, it is recommended both humans and animals avoid direct contact with the water.
Goulburn-Murray Water (GMW) water resources manager Mark Bailey said recent pumping events at the lake were not thought to have contributed to the build up of the bacteria.
“Warm conditions and bright sunlight aid [the blue-green algae blooms] — so we have pretty much had perfect conditions at the moment,” he said.
