Stuntman grandson Esma’s pride and joy

IT IS no secret that grandparents love to reel off the achievements of their loved ones, but there are very few who can talk about having a grandson who is a Hollywood stuntman.

Swan Hill’s Esma Jewson is one of those that can.

Her grandson Alex Jewson was just one of three stuntman hired for the high profile film Unbroken, directed by Hollywood actress Angelie Jolie.

Filmed in Australia, Alex’s role was to take on all the dangerous stunts of one of the main actors Domhnall Gleeson.

He was involved in a number of “jaw dropping” acts.

Proud as punch of her grandson’s achievement, Esma couldn’t wait to see the sort of action he was involved in on the big screen.

Her daughter-in-law Sandra took her to the movies to watch the film last week.

“Anything that looked dangerous I would say, ‘oh I hope Alex isn’t in that one,” she laughed.

“It did scare me a bit, but I am proud of what he is doing and achieving. He has worked very hard for it.

“It was exciting to see his name come up on the screen.”

Sandra said Esma, an Alcheringa resident, was up early last Wednesday in anticipation of seeing Alex on the big screen.

“On our way out, she was telling everyone that she was off to see her grandson in the movie. Then when we came out of the film, she was telling everyone who was waiting for the next movie,” Sandra said.
