Powercor not responsible for compensation

NO COMPENSATION will be offered by Powercor following a blackout caused by a freak storm that passed through Lake Charm on Sunday evening.

“Basically, weather-related outages are not generally eligible for compensation from an electricity distributor,” spokesperson Drew Douglas said. “Rather, customers are encouraged to contact their insurance company.”

Furthermore, Mr Douglas said rumour of $100 discounts to be offered by Powercor to consumers affected by the outage was not true as Powercor was not responsible for billing for electrical services and so could not offer bill discounts.

However, Mr Douglas said Powercor was able to provide a letter to insurance companies to assist with a claim.
