FOLLOWING its successful hosting of Country Week recently, Swan Hill Lawn Tennis Club is looking to the future for ways to improve.
The Victorian Country Tennis Association (VCTA) will accept bids to host Country Week for the three-year block between 2016 and 2018 later in the year, most likely in June.
Rumours circulated throughout Country Week participants earlier this month that the event was unlikely to come back to Swan Hill, amid concerns over the surface quality of the temporary grass courts on the Ken Harrison Reserve soccer pitch.
Swan Hill Lawn Tennis Club president John Brookshaw confirmed the club was still interested in making a bid to host one of the three years on offer, but there were two issues it had to sort out first.
“There’s meant to be a $20,000 hosting fee to Tennis Victoria and we’d need to sort out how that’s going to be paid,” Mr Brookshaw said.
“The second one is that the soccer oval at Ken Harrison Sporting Complex needs refurbishment so the courts can last a whole week of tennis.”
