Clinic here to help expectant mums

SWAN Hill District Health has announced the opening of a new clinic to help promote healthy eating and weight management for women during pregnancy.

The Maternal and Child Nutrition clinic will be provided twice per month and will cover any nutrition or diet related issues from early pregnancy through to post pregnancy.

The new clinic comes in the wake of research that obesity in pregnancy is a greater risk to unborn babies than smoking and that careful planning can reduce the risks to mothers and babies of obese mothers giving birth.

Swan Hill District Health dietitian Renae Noblet said the clinic will provide women with the opportunity to get nutritional expertise and help to dispel confusion surrounding the issue.

“Part of the plan of the clinic is enabling better access for women so if they are planning pregnancy or they are a little bit overweight, then we can help them manage the weight gain,” Ms Noblett said.
